- Thursday Evening: 2:30pm
Gage steps off the bus. He walks up the street excitedly. This week is not a normal week. In fact, this day will not be a normal day. At ALL! Unbeknownst to Gage and his younger brother, Kolton, they are about to encounter a major surprise.
But, let’s jump to the beginning of the story first.
- Monday Morning : 9:00 am
It’s a chilly spring morning in Johnstown, Pa. A van of 11 teenagers arrive at a cute ranch style home, where a family of four lives. Rhiannon, Mom, Kolton 10, Gage 13, & 5 year old Kaylyn greet the group. The group of teenagers from Guildford CT is eager to serve the Pollino Family. Not knowing the Pollino story, the group was unaware of the impact that they will have on the Family over the course of the week.
Rhiannon divulges her family’s predicament.
Pollino Family Story
About two week’s prior to the groups arrival, the Pollino family experienced a tragedy. This tragedy truly set the family back. Furthermore, it left a caring MOM worried and unsure of how she could recover her losses.
One night while the family was sleeping, the house was being heated by a kerosene heater. Unfortunately, the heater malfunctioned, spurning ashes and smoke all over the house, while the family was asleep. The family awoke to choking and their home being covered in smoke.
Limited financially, the Pollino family was unable to fully repair the damages done to their house.
Monday Afternoon: 1:00pm – Thursday 5:00pm
Group 3 eagerly starts to clean the chemicals off the wall due to the smoke. The carpet is pulled up and floors are laid. The walls are painted, and the house slowly begins to transforms, slowly.
During the week, the group finds out that Gage and Colton have been sharing a twin size bed. The group is saddened and somewhat upset about the matter. …So they decide to do an Extreme Makeover, Adventures Style, seeing that the house was already in the process of being made over!
Steelers Theme! Everything Steelers! The Boys, Favorite team! But most of all, the bunk beds!
- Thursday Evening: 2:30p,
Rhiannon tells Gage and Kolton to close their eyes, as they enter the house! Unknowingly, the boys are about to enter their new room, with a new bunk beds and Steelers theme items. The Boy steps into their newly designed room.
Their eyes open, they both start screaming. Gage shouts this is “Unbelievable!” And Kolton states “I don’t have to sleep with Brother any more! This is amazing”.
The Boys are truly thrilled and Rhiannon, all smiles.
Rhiannon, repeatedly states, how blessed she is to have group of teenager take their Spring Break off to help her family out!
At the end of the week, new floors we laid, and the interior of the house received a fresh coat of paint.
What a great way to bless a family!
