Our team partnered with JUMP ministries for the week in Johnstown. JUMP stands for Johnstown United Methodist Parish. They are a group of retired folk doing missions in their hometown. One of their projects is building handicap ramps. They learned it is beneficial to build removable ramps, so that they can take a ramp that is no longer needed apart, and reuse the pieces. The first day, the team dismanteled an 80' ramp.
The pieces were loaded into Walt's dump truck. Walt had a plan for getting it all loaded and directed the team with the placement of each piece.
Next the team built a ramp from scratch, under the direction of Debbie- the ramp master. She was assisted by Bob and John.. JUMP is pretty well known around the Johnstown area for building ramps. They have a goal to provide a ramp for all in need of one. Joanne had a stroke and uses a wheelchair. She moved in with her daughter, Sandy. There was no doors at ground level. The stairs made it nearly impossible to get out of the home.
Here you see the work in progress.
The hard part is almost done- the last ramp piece is soon to be placed. Next the handrails and spindles will be added. Great team work!
